Since
the days my Great-Grandfather
fished
the Fraser River with President Teddy
Roosevelt,
the Tewksbury family has been fly fishing Colorado
waters. In
this beautiful state of Colorado fly fishing
means more than just a rod, a reel
and a couple of
flies. With our trips we give you a full experience
of the
Colorado Rockies.
Create a

 After guiding
guests on many
Colorado waters
over the years,
we learned from
our guests that
nothing beats
the fishing at the
Bar ZX Ranch.
Today, we only fish this beautiful and remote
location.
The Ranch is remotely located in the mountains of
Western Colorado,
tucked between Crested Butte and
Grand Junction. This is an original homesteaded
ranch
where the family has been taking great care of their 16
varieties of trout
for decades. Each of the ranch’s lake’s
are spring fed from the ice cold waters
that seep through
the rocky soils from the heavy winter snowfall from the
Ragged
Range of Mountains that tower above the ranch.
Each lake is a different adventure
with some lakes as
small as beaver pond and other up to 5 acres. There are few
places on earth that the angler can be taking trout on a streamer in one lake
and switching to a tiny may fly at the next lake minutes later. If your dream
fishing is for
18-inch rainbows, browns, cutthroat or brookies, the
Bar ZX Ranch
can’t be beat. In addition to the more
common species of trout we also land
trophy sized
Tiger Browns, Tasmanian Rainbows and Cutthroats
or hungry Kokanee
Salmon. Our days of fishing are a
smorgasbord of different fishing experiences
and types
of fish taken. We also practice strict catch and release
methods in
order to return the fish with as little chance
as possible of injuring the fish.
 Over the years we have
worked
with many children
and we enjoy the
opportunity
to help a child with their first
fly fishing
experience.
Our trip is certainly full of
fishing experiences, but our
other goal is to give
the
younger anglers knowledge of the out of doors and
maintaining the land as we
found it with little or no
eco-impact.
We even offer a special
Father-Son or Father-Daughter
trip for just such outings.
